Market Sizes: From Ziploc® to Custom

– Ziploc® official smallest: Snack Bag (152 × 114 mm / 6 × 4.5 in) – Uline standard slide-zip: 76 × 76 mm (3 × 3 in) – Custom manufacturing minimum: 40 × 50 mm (width × height) Source: Ziploc® product specs, Uline catalog #BAG-1127, ASTM F1980-22.

Why 40mm Is the Hard Minimum

Below 40 mm width, slide-zip function fails mechanically.

Zipper Pitch: ≥2.5mm

Minimum tooth spacing (YKK Z-100 series). Narrower pitches jam under tension.

Heat-Seal Margin: ≥3mm per Side

HF welding requires 3 mm seal width (ISO 11339:2020). Less = leak risk.

Slider Travel: ≥10mm

Slider must move 10 mm to fully engage/disengage teeth (Presto Tech Bulletin #PT-88).

→ Total minimum width: 2.5 mm (zipper) + 3 mm + 3 mm (seals) = 8.5 mm — plus usable cavity.
40 mm is the proven lower limit for reliable operation.

FAQ: Smallest Ziplock Bag Questions

Q: Can you make 30×30 mm slide-zip bags?
A: No. 40 mm width is the functional minimum. Verified with YKK zipper tooling.

Q: Is there a 1×1 inch (25×25 mm) resealable bag?
A: No commercial slide-zip exists at that size. Closest is heat-seal only (25×35 mm min).

Q: Do you offer samples?
A: Standard sizes (e.g., 60×90 mm PVC slide-zip): free. Custom sizes: $50, credited on order ≥10,000 pcs.

Q: Why +10% for PE?
A: Roll-fed machines can’t stop exactly at a count. +10% is industry standard (Flexible Packaging Association guideline §4.2).
